Hey Preston Grove! Are you interested in eating green? Well Savannah has just named it’s first certified green restaurant: Thrive.
Everything made within Thrive’s walls are made with ingredients from local and regional farm produce whenever possible. I love this, because it gives back to the community and farmers that have given their time and energy to bring fresh produce to the world. Locally grown produce is also more fresh, because they are void of the chemicals that keeps produce fresh throughout the shipping process.
Thrive is a carry-out restaurant, but you won’t find a Styrofoam take out box anywhere. There’s also a homemade rain barrel out back that catches water that Thrive owner Wendy Armstrong uses to water the wheatgrass. You can’t get anymore green than that!
I believe that Thrive is a prime example of how something small can make a big difference. Egg cartons are returned to the local egg producer, Hope Grows. Likewise, Oaktree Farm reuses its wooden produce crates. Tree Frog Recycling picks up the rest of the cafe’s recyclables. It’s an ongoing recycling cycle.
If you can, I think that you should check out Thrive, located at 4700 E. U.S. 80.
Do you know of any other ‘green’ restaurants? Would you eat at one?
