Can you imagine Savannah in the summertime with no shrimp?  I can’t. And this oil spill in the Gulf really isn’t helping. The summer heat is brutal in Georgia, and just the thought of shrimp can make the heat so much more bearable.

With this recent oil spill, it really puts in perspective how fragile the economy really is.

While they’re in full season, let’s support local shrimpers while we can and savor every morsel.:)

Dishwasher Tips

dishwasherHonestly, I didn’t know that there was a science to loading the dishwasher. Wherever things fit, was where they went. If they didn’t fit in the dishwasher, I had no qualms about washing them by hand.

Studies show that there is a certain way that you can load things in the dish washer to save time and become more efficient:

Tip #1: Load larger items at the sides and back of the dishwasher so they don’t block water and detergent from getting to the other dishes.

Tip #2: Place the dirtier sides of the dishes more towards the center. This way, they can get more exposure to the spray. Don’t let dishes and utensils lay side by side which can stop the water from reaching all sides.
Tip #3: Use the top rack for plastic and delicate items that are dishwasher safe.

Tip #4: Put glassware on prongs provided to prevent breakage. Also, make sure china, glassware, and stemware don’t touch other items in order to prevent breakage.

Tip #5: Load silverware with handles down, but knives with handle up. If your dishwasher has an open basket, mix the silverware together to keep them from sticking together.

Tip #6: Place items with baked on food facedown and towards the back as to gain easy access to the bottom sprayer.
